The Escape from Lolcatraz, or Blogging as an Escape from Reality!?!?

An ESCapade

Lets get pseudo-philosophical! (I discuss from a first-person perspective, only because I prefer it, not due to some self-related experience.) I have been looking upon blogging as a kind of escape-way when life gets dull and boring, or when I am overwhelmed of creativity, or just can't sleep and care for some social interplay. Now, I face almost the opposite side of the coin. When, into deep serious states in life, that needs lots of reflection, a "LOL" can destroy the reflection and I have to start the thinking-process all over again. Today the online sphere is an ongoing parallell world, side by side, the physical world. Both worlds are happening in the real world of the humans everyday life. Escapes can be looked upon as intellectual decisions needed when aiming for a timelimited goal. Before escapes was thought of as something negative - what has generated this paradigmshift in thinking? The "ESC-key ", of course. The computers has tought us that we are the agent that can descide, before we thought it was all about destiny ;-)

Moderation is the key, do not overdo, but enjoy.
A little leads to more, the success is knowing how much.

Glad to see you posting Anna-lys, my friend.

I hadn't thought about it that way but I see your point. Food for thought, for sure.

Why this modesty? Your text is not 'pseudo-', meaning 'false-' philosophy. It is true ditto. You conclude the 'thesis-antithesis-paradigm' as being a force of evolution, which is not a means of predicting the future, but merely a way of explaining the past.

LOL at the lolcatraz .. hehe ..
i don't know .. but i've always thought of excapes as being a positive thing ...
maybe i'm too much into avoiding reality?
therefore the blogging into an alternate reality?
eh, who knows .. :) all i really know right now is that i've worked a 12 hour day and this is a welcome escape.

It is good to have an out
just sometimes the "out" becomes a a "Must do" then it looses it's ability to be an "out"
does that make sense? think I lost the argument somewhere along the way ;-)

Thank You all for Your shared thoughts, so far, upon this post. You have chocked me, made me smile, but also generated some tears of emphatic understanding. I read all of Your comments, but, sometimes I run out of words and only ride on the emotional wave You create ... that is the boat I am sitting in right now.

My blogging time is my place of expression to a certain degree and after a hard day I find it relaxing to sit down and read the blog posts of others and read the comments people have left. ♡

To me, blogging is no more an escape than talking with a passer-by, presenting a theory or viewpoint with a friend and getting feedback, or posting wonderful art and pictures which others' are invited to enjoy. If interaction is an escape than I guess I am guilty of sawing through the bars and finding a world which I may not have found without the freedom.
But that is just me, and I could be wrong!

Blogging confirms for me just how many dull lifeforms are out there. Dull posts, dull comments, no personality. That's one of the few cons.

However, it ALSO confirms that there are a lot of amazing lifeforms as well. This is an excellent medium for creativity and expression that the "real" world tends to discount and suppress.

Along with at least one other "activity", blogging feels good both during and after.

Very interesting reflection, I was into the subject of free will also, deciding about our life and that, I thought:
Do you think your mind is capable of independent judgment and largely directs the course of your life? Do you think that most of your decisions in life have been the product of your rational, conscious self? Do you believe you are in control of your life? Do you cherish ideas such as self-expression, a sense of autonomy and a distinct, self-authored identity? Probably most of the people will answers yes

We value things more when we pay a higher price for them. The Bayer aspirin and the Rolex watch seem valuable because of how much they cost, not because they're better in practical terms than a generic aspirin or a Timex. Relativity distorts reality. We might be earning 10 times more money than we earned for the same work a decade ago, but we're convinced that we're underpaid if the people around us are earning more.

Oh my, interesting but complicated, I need an escape to think things over.

What if you did not have this opportunity? If we had to answer the question in one hour, since your professor demands respons? If your answer is true, is irrelevant. It can be corrected later. You may reply by throwing dice. Marianas question is very complicated, that is true. Freedom of choice contradicts predestination, which is basal in science. I want to have a free will, but it is hard to believe it exists.

i love the picture of the cat "escaping" from the window.
i'd LOL but i don't want to disappoint you.
there is no escape, only moments when you forget to remember.

Thinking-loud-in-process :-D

I don't believe there is a product within us, called The Self, still it occupies a place, because we change perspective if we move or think etcetera.
I think Self is a fruitful metaphor for those systems engaged in our ecological and intersubjective learningprocess - how to become a human creature and develop trough out life (the last thing the Self has to deal with is learning to die), said that - The Self must both be an interface between the human and the environment (both the inner world and the outer world of our environments LOL and both kind exist in the cyberworld, but it is also an organizer in that place "inbetween".

There must be some kind of core in the layers of our sense of a Self, that makes us feel that we are the same but act and think different in relation to different contexts, we have to recognize ourself (did I said that or was it You or inbetween LOL). We can extend this Self-apparatus with different tools, internet is one :-D

In light of this "The free will" becomes an illusion. We are active agents but always in relation to something or someone else - or put in an other way - the Free will exist (within the limited system we are a part of or rather what we perceive as being a part of).

Self is not an ego, nor and I, Self always is in relation to something else ... so The self is not on a shelf inside our heads it is an active organizer of past, present and future experiences.

About how we value things that cost more (money or effort). I think Freud answered that very well: We are always striving for competence, we are built to develop ourselves over time to gain new capacities. In today's society we don't use those forces to survive from dangerous animals by killing and eating them. But we are a creative species so we have invented other things to strive after - because striving is what makes us live, or sense that we are alive. said that dying must be to learn to not strive anymore ??? Must be the most difficult thing to learn.

Thanks for Your comments <3

blogging can be a form to say "i am alive" to an unknown and parallell universe.

can be an escape to say what you think in the back of a mirror.

do you understand my poor thought in broken English?

if not, is better to me... :)

good week end to you!

Escaping the world by hitting the ESC-key - not a bad idea. Or am I lost on a LOL-I-pop?

Thanks for the comment and nice to see that you are still there to tease us.

If it were only that simple to turn the mind off. the press of a key stroke...

that makes me wonder how much time I would spend in the off positon.

Once, a friend of mine said to me; “If it hasn’t been for blogging I don’t know where I’d be today”.
In the beginning I thought my friend is a nut, but then when I, my self, got “hooked up” into blogging” I changed my mind.
To me, blogging is not escape, I’d rather say it’s an external expansion, the realization of “unknown” quality hidden somewhere within my soul.

From a vogonic perspective, paramecium is the only creature, to whom God gave this "free-will". For what purpose we don't know. We do not deny, that a lot of humans think they are in charge of ruling the nature. How naive they are!

I liked a lot how you described the self, you left me thinking, with lots of open question, specially when you say
"Self is a fruitful metaphor for those systems engaged in our ecological and intersubjective learningprocess - how to become a human creature and develop trough out life (the last thing the Self has to deal with is learning to die)"
That idea is great, but when you define it as an interface, I think you are simplyfying it too much, you are leaving lots of things out, I am not so sure about it, have to think it deeper.
Great thoughts!
